Trafford FC Local fooball at its best!
Topic posted by Matt ... dated:22 February 2008
Does anybody have any ideas on anything else we, as a football club can do to attract more of the football loving people of Flixton, Urmston and Davyhulme to support their local team?? We play great football, have a great chance of winning the North West Counties League this year. The pitch is fantastic, the atmosphere is friendly and lively (lots of singing without the swearing), pie peas and gravy £1.30, cheap bar!!! any ideas on increasing the support level down at shawe view (behind bird in hand pub)would be very welcome. Check out traffordfc.co.uk

As a Flixton lad raised in Chassen rd,now living in Kettering,Northamptonshire since 1968 and often traveling up to Crewe I would love to call in to support the Team when in the area, the ground was Man Cities training ground when I was a nipper,I've met all the City players at the time, including my favourite,Bert Trautman, who once carried me on his shoulders 2 or 3 times around the pitch in training for the Cup Final at Wembley.my Heart still lies within Flixton.

Since the last postings on here the team did not fair too well and went down a division. Many players left for greener pastures and the club has gone though some rebuilding. Lets wish them well and have a great season.

To answer my own question, I have now read in the paper that they finished tenth and that the season is over. For their first year in the division it became a job well done, congratulations to the players and staff.

That is great news, what is their position now in the league? Do they have many more games to play, it must be close to the season end?

I can see your point Oscar but it really is a grand couple of hours entertainment. The people who do go are very friendly in a nice atmosphere. You can buy food and drink while showing of your prowess as a referee or coach. I gathered that is what most of the crowd are good at.

Oscar, I find it quite sad that you can afford to do stuff but decide not to. I was at the match on Tuesday and Trafford played well and deserved to win. I went home very happy with the £8 I spent for an evenings entertainment.

I just think everything is expensive nowadays, so instead of paying it and winging about it I just don't bother doing much nowadays. The last time I went to the cinema was on one of those Orange half price Wednesday things, we got the snacks from tesco next door.

Its not about being tight either, I can afford to do most things but just can't bring myself to pay what people are asking nowadays and whilst the world is full of people that are easily parted from their cash theres not much chance of things coming down to sensible levels, so its just easier not to bother.

Oscar, do you really think £8 is expensive?  We are only 2 leagues below the Conference!  We do offer concessions at £4 and for league games under 12s can get free season tickets and under 18s are £2.  Compare this to anywhere upwards of £25 for Premier League or Championship football.  Also it costs more than £8 these days to go to the Cinema and you get much better value from Trafford.

Believe me when I say that the money we get from the gate is nowhere near enough to cover the costs of running the club.  You should see our utilities bills and insurance costs!  The committee and supporters are tireless in their pursuit of raising the extra funds to cover the shortfall in the money we get from the gate!  They are the unsung heroes of the club which is exceeding expectations at this level of football.

Divad, I'm sorry you didn't join us on Saturday, although it clashed with a United game so understand. It was a great atmosphere, the Trafford faithful were in great voice, with a sterling victory against Altrincham. Trafford FC v Skelmersdale tonight (1 October 2013) 7.45pm kick off. Get down to Pennybridge Lane, Flixton and cheer on the boys!!!

FA Cup: Trafford 2 Altrincham 1 That's a typical cup result and I wish I had gone to watch after seeing United's performance today.

Does no one think £8 is a bit on the steep side to watch this level of football. I would have to think twice about paying it to watch Man Utd.

I went on Saturday for the first time ever and enjoyed it immensely. Good crowd of people, friendly, and knowledgeable about their local club. No doubt I will go again if it doesn't clash with United playing.

Great win for Trafford FC on Saturday, beating Rushall Olympic 3-1. Trafford play Altrincham FC on Saturday in the FA Cup (28 Sept 2013 - 3pm kick off). Should be another good crowd (500+) and a good game against an in form team from a higher division. Get yourself down there.

Fantastic day watching Trafford FC on Bank Holiday Monday. We didn't get anything out of the game but from what I have seen of the team in the new (higher) division, I feel we should finish in the top half. Well done to all the team at Trafford for getting the pitch and ground ready, and adding to the friendly atmosphere. If you haven't been to watch Trafford FC yet, get yourself down there.
